Salem State is a sponsor of the New England Estuarine Research Society
The New England Estuarine Research Society will be holding its biennial spring meeting at the Salem Waterfront Hotel (Pickering Wharf) April 2-4. NEERS is a professional organization of approximately 500 members devoted to the study of estuaries and coastal environments in New England. The Society draws its membership from academic and research institutions, state and federal agencies, environmental consulting firms, and other conservation organizations throughout the region. Several members of the Biology Department are members, including Professors Young, Fregeau, Fisher, Buttner, and Maney. Thursday April 2 will consist of a special symposium “The Science Behind Ocean Management” and will conclude with a Social Thursday evening. Friday & Saturday there will be oral presentations and posters by professionals as well as graduate and undergraduate students. Pre-registration (by March 20) is only $49 for students ($20 for just the Symposium and Social) and $99 (members) or $124 (non-members) -- $30 & $40 for just the Symposium. After March 20 you can still register but it will cost $62/$124/$149. NEERS folks are friendly and knowledgeable and this is a great opportunity for you to see what coastal research is going on in this area and for you to make useful contacts for graduate school or potential employment. For more information, contact Dr. Young. To pre-register, go to www.NEERS.org and click on ‘Meeting’.”
