Higher Education in Student Affairs - Apply

"Applying for this program was one of the best decisions I ever made. It opened my eyes to opportunities and taught me I can achieve my goals." Katherine Cole, 2006 Graduate

Application Materials

Applying is easy.  Just submit the following:

  • Completed Admissions Application.
  • A $50 non-refundable application fee made payable to Salem State - check or money order.
  • Complete, official transcript documenting the award of a bachelor's degree and any graduate courses taken or degrees held.
  • Three completed Reference for Graduate Admission forms. References may attach a letter, but must also return the form.
  • Official copy of scores from either the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) taken within the last five years. Those who already hold a master's degree or higher are exempt from this requirement.
  • Students for whom English is not a first language must submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) scores.
  • Statement of purpose (500- to 1,000-words, double-spaced) addressing the following questions:
    • What factors in your personal and professional history have influenced you in the past and now lead you to seek admission to this program at Salem State?
    • What are your long-term professional goals, and how will this program help you meet them?
    • Is there any other information that you think would help the admissions committee to evaluate your application?

Application Deadline

  • We recommend that you apply no later than May 1 for fall enrollment.  Our students begin as a cohort in the fall semester, so admissions are stopped for the next academic year once enough qualified applicants are selected.
  • Please be advised that applications will not be reviewed until they are complete (all required materials are received).

Program Prerequisites

  • Prerequisite: One course in introductory psychology or general psychology
  • Additional Recommendation: One course in measurement and evaluation or equivalent, such as statistics

Tips

  • Apply early! Our students begin as a cohort in the Fall semester, so admissions are stopped for the next academic year once enough qualified applicants are selected.
  • Submit materials in pieces; we do not need to receive your entire application packet at one time.
  • Try to submit both academic and professional references. Have references speak to your ability to do graduate level work or come from someone who directly supervised you.

Please Note

  • Due to the sequencing of courses, non-matriculated students may only take the non-sequenced courses. Contact Lee Brossoit for more information.
