Healthcare Studies

Salem State's bachelor of science in healthcare studies was approved by the Department of Higher Education in June 2015. The minor began in fall 2015 and students have been accepted into the major starting fall 2016. This program is designed for students interested in the healthcare and human service industry but choose to work in a non-licensed, nonclinical setting. Health care support occupations are identified as one of the big four for employment growth by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Our students will take a core group of classes to provide a foundation in understanding the healthcare industry as well as major elective classes from a variety of departments across the campus such as social work, criminal justice, sociology, music, world languages, psychology, business, political science, and sport and movement science.

Students will complete a mandatory minor selected from the minors offered at Salem State University. Along with the free electives, the student will be able to identify specific areas of interest. The students will have an opportunity for experiential learning through workplace observations and a senior internship.
