Counseling & Psychological Services - Licensure
Achieving Licensed Mental Health Counselor Status
We prepare graduates to become licensed Mental Health Counselors in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. To achieve that goal, you must fulfill classroom and field-based requirements to receive your Master of Science (MS) degree and then can fulfill post-graduate clinical requisites and take the state licensure exam.
Graduate School Requirements
- Complete course work in the program with grades of B or better
- Satisfactory completion of a practicum consisting of a minimum of 100 hours
- Satisfactory completion of an internship consisting of a minimum of 600 hours
- Take and pass comprehensive examinations
Post-graduate Requirements
- Complete post-master's supervised clinical work (full-time, two years)
- Take and pass the state licensing exam
- Apply for licensure to the Board of Allied Mental Health and Human Services Professionals.
- Currently licensure applications are being processed by the Center for Credentialing & Education in North Carolina.
