Julie Kiernan received her master of fine arts degree from the University of California, Irvine. Her thesis revolved around the pedagogy of acting training. While working as a professional actress in Los Angeles she continued her research and interest in education by teaching for the Los Angeles County School District. Transitioning back into higher education she worked at Soka University of America in Aliso Viejo, California, prior to coming to Salem State. One of her current research interests is education as “value-creation,” where education is evaluated by its ability to stimulate and awaken human potential. In the spring of 2015 she is teaching EDU 339N Teaching Methods in Theatre/Speech; SPC 101A Oral Communication: Personal & Professional; and SPCE 101 ESL Oral Communication.
