Topic: 20th Century Italian Short Story

This course features in-depth study of the 20th century Italian short story, its development and reflection of the historical political and cultural realities of contemporary Italian and European literary, philosophical and social trends. The reading selection includes a variety of linguistic styles, focusing on realistic, fantastic, and psychological short stories. In addition to literary texts, class material will include critical essays, films, music, and art. Conducted entirely in Italian.
Prerequisites: Intermediate to advanced fluency in written and spoken Italian, as demonstrated by completion of undergraduate coursework in Italian at the post-intermediate level (300-level or higher), teaching certification in Italian, or permission from the instructor.
