Salem State established its undergraduate social work major in 1969. In 1979, the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited the university's Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program. When the Master of Social Work (MSW) program was founded in 1986, Salem State formally established the School of Social Work.

Both of our programs remain fully accredited by CSWE and firmly rooted in our commitment to the highest standards of education for human services.
