Graduate Certificate in Geo-Information Science - Curriculum

The Certificate in Geo-Information Science consists of five courses that provide a core understanding of Geo-Spatial technologies, hands-on use of GIS software, and a general introduction to GIS problem solving applications.  The courses help you gain an in-depth knowledge of GIS concepts and as well as providing exposure to real-world GIS problem solving.  One elective in an area of your choice is required

Real-world projects are incorporated in to many of the classes.  Examples have included determining the best locations to site new playgrounds, evaluating the impact of rail trails on property values, and mapping unequal exposure to environmental hazards in Massachusetts.  Projects specifically benefitting the cities of Boston and Salem as well as the state of Massachusetts have been conducted.
