Master of Science (MS) in Geo-Information Science - Digital Geography Laboratory

The state-of-the-art Digital Geography Laboratory (DGL) enables students to conduct hands-on research and conduct GIS projects.  Students have used the DGL to study how human activity has changed the earth, how hazardous materials tend to be located in low income neighborhoods, geographic crime patterns, emergency management procedures, demographic and transportation analysis, and global warming and beach erosion.

The DGL has 37 seats, a teaching lab and is equipped with a large format plotters, scanners, and navigation grade and resource mapping grade GPS units.  Software packages include ESRI, ERDAS, MapInfo and other public and private software.  GIS professionals use the same hardware and software found in our lab, so what you learn in the DGL lab can be applied to your career.  Because the DGL is a focal point of the program, it is an ideal place to collaborate with peers and faculty.

Information on Geography and GIS jobs, Department of Geography alumni, and any and all things related to the Salem State Department of Geography can be found on the DGL webpage.
