The RN to BSN program is a part-time evening program designed for registered nurses currently holding diplomas or associate degrees and wishing to earn a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN).


Complete an undergraduate admissions application

Application deadlines:
November 1 for admission to spring semester
March 1 for admission to fall semester

Required application materials:

  • Admissions application
  • Official sealed transcripts
  • Legible copy of your RN license
  • Resume
  • Application fee

Send all of the above information to the Salem State admissions office.

Credit Transfer

  • Receive 35 credits for your RN license
  • Associate degree-level nursing clinical courses do not transfer
  • Non-nursing, college-level courses may transfer with a grade of C- or higher

Course Info

  • RN-BSN nursing courses are offered in the fall, spring and summer session semesters and applicants are admitted throughout the year
  • General education, science and support courses are offered year round
  • Nursing classes are held on site at Salem State and Northern Essex Community College; online classes may be available
  • Two clinical practica are required: nursing management and leadership and public health - each requires six hours a week for a semester
  • RNs may take health policy or professional role transition prior to matriculation
