RN to BSN

The RN to BSN program is a part-time evening program designed for registered nurses currently holding diplomas or associate degrees and wishing to earn a bachelor of science degree in nursing (BSN).

Applying

  • Complete an undergraduate admissions application
  • INCLUDE with your application:
    • Official sealed transcripts
    • Legible copy of your RN license
    • Resume
    • Application fee
  • Send all of the above information to the Salem State Admissions Office
  • Application deadlines:
    • December 1 for admission to spring semester
    • May 1 for admission to fall semester

Credit Transfer

  • Receive 25 credits for your RN license
  • Associate degree-level nursing clinical courses do not transfer
  • Non-nursing, college-level courses may transfer with a grade of C- or higher

Course Info

  • RN-BSN nursing courses are offered in the fall, spring and Summer Session I semesters and admits applicants throughtout the year
  • General education, science and support courses are offered all year
  • Nursing classes are held on site at Salem State and Northern Essex Community College; online classes may be available
  • Two clinical practica are required: nursing management and leadership and public health - each requires six hours a week for a semester
  • RNs may take Health Policy or Professional Role Transition without program acceptance (with proof of licensure)
  • Accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and the National League for Nursting Accreditation Commission (NLNAC)
  • All nursing students must adhere to School of Nursing policies

Cost and Time to Complete

  • Depends on how many courses you require to complete the RN-BSN program, and how many courses you take each semester
