Licensure Only in Special Education

The Licensure Only in Special Education program is designed for those who already have a master's degree and are just seeking licensure to teach special education. Our program prepares teachers to work with students with mild to moderate disabilities in grades PK-8 or 5-12. Teachers can upgrade their knowledge and skills in the field of special education. The program also serves those with bachelor's or advanced degrees who want to gain a more comprehensive knowledge of special education in school systems. Parents, administrators, and community service workers may benefit from this program.

Graduates are prepared to work in public schools with a continuum of services, from total inclusion to substantially separate settings.  Some graduates may choose to work in private special education school programs.

Licensure

Choose our Initial Licensure option if you seek a first license in Massachusetts.
Choose our Professional Licensure option if you already hold initial licensure in special education and seek professional teacher licensure endorsement.
Choose our Master of Education option if you seek a license and a master's degree.

Not sure what licensure option is best for you or want to know the steps to licensure? Visit our Office of Licensure and Field Placement.

Accreditation

Be a part of a program that is rigorous and exceeds professional standards. We have earned accreditation at national and state levels.

Resources

You will have educational and professional development resources at your fingertips to help you achieve your own career goals.  Participate in special projects and take advantage of resources. Choose from a variety of fieldwork experiences. Select one of the 50 communities with whom we have relationships or partner with one of our four laboratory schools, each of which features a different theme.
