Message from the Associate Dean

Welcome to the School of Education at Salem State, where we proudly continue the university's 150-plus-year history as a respected preparer of educators, and as a resource for the continuing education of established education professionals. Our goal is to develop educators who are intellectual, ethical and pedagogical leaders who can work within a collaborative educational community and who are committed to serving the diverse needs of learners of all ages.

The School of Education offers more than two dozen programs across the undergraduate and graduate levels. We cover all areas of curriculum and in a variety of community settings. Our programs guide you through the preparation for state teaching licenses, or, if you prefer, preparation for working as educators in community centers or organizations. Our licensure programs are approved by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (MDESE), and nationally recognized and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

The last 20 years of my educational career have been right here at Salem State. I came here wanting to have a hand in preparing new educators who are concerned about kids, know how to help them build happy, thoughtful and productive lives, and understand the role of education and educators in making the world a better place. I am as happy to be here as I was that very first day. Much of that stems from so many of our graduates staying in touch with us, letting us know how much they enjoy their work in education, how much they learned here, and how much they are still learning.

If you choose to pursue a career in education or to strengthen an existing one in this "noble profession," you have come to the right place.

Please drop by my office in the Sullivan Building with any questions or comments, or just to say hello.
