The Craft of Poetry is a writing course that offers a thorough, hands-on exploration of poetic craft. Students will learn about meter and various poetic forms, such as the sonnet, villanelle, and sestina. The course will also cover technique in free verse, concentrating on line length, line breaks, and stanza length, with attention given to other poetic elements-word choice, diction, tone, imagery. Students will turn in a portfolio of poems and write short papers. Not open to students who have received credit for ENG403A.
