Summer 2013 SSU Music Department Northeast Jazz and Recording Camp July 7 -12, 2013!

The Salem State music department is pleased to announce its 2013 Northeast Jazz and Recording Camp! This year's camp will be held from July 7-12, 2013. Cost for the camp will be $450 for day-only students and $575 for overnight students. Registration for the camp will be open soon. Please check back for details.
For overnight campers, accommodations will be available at the recently constructed Marsh Hall dormitory located steps away from the Central Campus camp academic building. Check-in for overnight campers will be at 5:30 pm on July 7, and check-out will take place immediately following Friday night's closing activities on July 12. An array of evening activities, such as a movie night, jam sessions, etc., have been planned for the overnight camp students. Qualified adult supervision will take place at all evening activities.
Once again, Eric Jefferson will serve as head counselor for overnight students. Mr Jefferson has been involved in music education and music camps for over 15 years as a clinician, specialist and instructor. He has been a band director since 2004 and has worked for bands throughout NC, FL, VA, and MA. He currently teaches in the Lynn Public School system and his bands have enjoyed success at state and regional festivals. Mr. Jefferson has extensive experience running summer camps and is a welcome addition to the Salem State program.
In addition to Mr. Jefferson, several Salem State faculty members, including Tom Palance, director of the Salem State University Big Band, and Nick Giarratani, adjunct recording/technology faculty and full-time recording studio manager, will be conducting classes such as:
Big band ensemble
Advanced combo
Tracking and mixing
Recording basics
Advanced recording and editing
Salem State performs a thorough background check on all faculty members.
An example of the daily schedule will be as follows:
8 am breakfast
9 am-12 pm ensembles, classes
12-1 pm lunch
1-4 pm classes and ensembles
4-5 pm special performances
For overnight students:
5-6 pm dinner
6-7 pm rehearsals/jam time
7-9:30 pm evening activities
9:30 pm bed check

COST
Overnight Students: $575
Includes lodging, three meals a day, evening activities and all ensembles and classes.
Commuter Students: $450
Includes two meals a day and all ensembles and classes.
One-on-one instruction with faculty members is also available at a rate of $60 per one hour lesson.
Faculty members will determine placement for all classes and ensembles based on incoming auditions.
