Licensure Only in Special Education - Curriculum

INITIAL LICENSURE

Our courses prepare you to work with students with mild to moderate disabilities in a variety of settings in grades PK-8 or 5-12.  The initial licensure only program is 30 credits; the M.Ed. initial licensure program is 39 credits.

Plan of Study

Accepted students must complete a Plan of Study when admitted and follow it, as some courses must be taken in sequence.  Although most courses are offered every semester and several are offered online, it is still required that you make and follow a plan of study.

Pre-Practicum and Practicum

The pre-practicum and practicum are important components of the initial licensure program.  You must complete 80 hours of pre-practicum experiences, working with different populations of students with disabilities and at different grade levels.  These experiences must be varied and follow the guidelines established in courses.

Practicum/student teaching occurs during the fall or spring semesters; it is never approved for the summer.  Also, a special education seminar must accompany the practicum.
