Amanda Read '11; Major: Communications; Minor: Marketing
“I came to Salem State because I was looking for something affordable, and the location is incredible. I have never lived near the ocean, and I love being close to Boston. I also wasn’t sure what I wanted to major in, and Salem State has a lot of majors.
During my freshman year, I realized that I loved to write. After being undeclared I knew I wanted to pick a major that appreciated writing, both formal and creative. Communications has been a way for me to improve and recreate how I write over and over. Writing is a viable skill across all fields of study, and I just feel I’m lucky enough to do it every day at school and beyond.
With my major, I hope to do healthcare PR, and I’m actually starting an internship in just that next month. I also might like to do grant writing for a non-profit in Washington, D.C. Ultimately, I want to use my communications skills to help other people, preferably at the state, national or international level.”
