Geography Major Adam Kohn interns at NECN with Meteorologist Matt Noyes
Adam Kohn, a geography major and math minor, just completed a summer-long internship with NECN meteorologist Matt Noyes at the New England Cable News TV (NECN) studios in Newton, Massachusetts. Adam says that he loved the experience. As part of the internship, Adam conducted a seven day forecast for Matt, which was video-taped so that Matt could give Adam constructive feedback on his attempt at an on-air broadcast.
Adam worked one day per week for thirteen weeks during the summer II session. Adam's principal duties included the daily written analysis of important weather charts, including the surface synoptic chart, the 500 millibar chart, and other weather maps, to assist NECN with their generation of multi-day weather forecasts for the public. As Matt Noyes interacts a great deal with NECN viewers using the web and other social media, Adam also assisted Matt Noyes in his interactions with his many 'fans'.
Adam's principal interests in geography are meteorology and climatology, and this internship provided him with valuable real-world, practical work experiences. Matt Noyes and his other NECN forecast meteorologists are a well-respected team for forecasting New England weather.
Adam is a junior who grew up in Peabody, and now lives in Lynn. Adam's internship was supervised by Professor John Hayes in the geography department at Salem State University.
