Student Academic Support Services Team

Nate

Nate Bryant – Assistant Dean, Student Academic Support Services

Nate Bryant has recently joined the Student Academic Support Services staff after working in the undergraduate Admissions Office for more than 20 years.  Nate holds both a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and a Master’s Degree in Education from Salem State University.  He is currently pursuing a doctoral degree.  Prior to moving over to Student Academic Support Services in June of 2009, Nate worked in all aspects of admissions including transfer students and international students.  For the last 10 years, Nate’s primary focus has been working with first-time freshmen.  During this time, he worked closely with the staff in the Student Academic Support Services to recruit and enroll students who were first-generation, low-income, and educationally disadvantaged.  He enjoys providing access and opportunity for the academically gifted as well as those students who would benefit from the many academic support services the college has to offer.

rebecca

Rebecca Dean- Staff Associate and Academic Coordinator

Rebecca Dean has been employed by the Learning Center for seven years. Rebecca holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Central Michigan University, a Master’s of Divinity Degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Doctorate Degree in Education from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. Rebecca mainly works with Student Academic Support Service students and also provides reading assistance to the campus community. She is dedicated to providing students with reading and study strategies that equip them to be literate and powerful members of the world in which they live.

Ashe

Ashleyne Alexis-Associate Coordinator of Student Development

Ashleyne Alexis has been employed in Student Academic Support Services (SASS) for five years.  During that time, Ashleyne has been responsible for overseeing the Student Development Program.  Ashleyne received both her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and her Master’s Degree in Higher Education/Student Affairs at Salem State University.  In addition to her responsibilities as the Coordinator for Student Development, Ashleyne serves as the advisor for the Multicultural Student Association, which is one of the largest student groups on the campus.  During her time as an undergrad, Ashleyne was active in the Student Government Association, Student Judicial Board, Campus Educators against Sexual Assault, and Program Council.

darius

Darius Gregory- Assistant Coordinator of Student Development

Darius Gregory is an alumnus of Salem State University where he obtained his baccalaureate degree in Economics. Mr. Gregory is pursuing a M.Ed. in Higher Education in Student Affairs and hopes to further his learning and become an impactful practitioner in the field of Higher Education. Darius has worked in Student Academic Support Services since 2008. In his role as assistant coordinator, Darius has the opportunity to advise students from different ethnic, social and economic backgrounds. Darius has devoted his time and energy over the last couple of years in ensuring that first year students make a smooth transition from high school to college with an emphasis on those students being retained until graduation. 

Rhonda

Rhonda Mercier- Administrative Assistant II

Rhonda Mercier has been employed by Salem State University since 2007 in the Student Academic Support Services department. She has taken part in organizing and participating in events such as The Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration, Graduating Students of Color Reception, Freshman Orientation, and the AID/DSP Summer Program. More importantly, Rhonda takes great pride and pleasure in encouraging and working closely with all Salem State University students in expanding their knowledge to reach their educational goals and achievements with programs such as the General Tutor and Work Study Programs. 

Jen

Jennifer McDowell- Office Assistant

Jennifer McDowell has been working in Student Academic Support Services since 2007. Jennifer comes to us from the state of Washington where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Central Washington University.  Jennifer is involved with all aspects of the pre-college transition program and enjoys helping students gain access to college and supporting them as they pursue their undergraduate degree.  She has also been involved with orientation/registration and the recruitment initiatives.
