Host Family Program
This program was established to foster cross-cultural experiences for both host families and visiting students. Students may be hosted for a holiday, a weekend or an evening. The program is designed to provide international students with a realistic perspective of American life, which often clarifies some stereotypes about American culture. At the same time, host families are afforded an opportunity to have meaningful cultural experiences with our international students and develop more global perspectives. Host families participate on a volunteer basis.
The Center for International Education maintains a list of people living near the college who have off-campus housing available for international students. CIE provides students assistance in understanding the lease documents and the owner-tenant relationship.
International students often assume that returning to their home countries will be easy. Most international students who have stayed in the United States for four years, however, tend to develop or change their values over time. These new values often conflict with those in their home country. This workshop prepares foreign students for re-assimilation into their native country.
