Your Pathway to a Salem State University Undergraduate Degree

 

Viking Global Bridge

  • Intensive language practice
  • Introduction to academic expectations in US undergraduate programs
  • Cultural immersion
  • 12 credits of academic coursework
  • Qualify to waive the TOEFL/IELTS and SAT requirements

Complete the Viking Global Bridge Program with a GPA of 3.3 or higher will be permitted to waive the TOEFL or IELTS requirement for admission.

Who: Academically qualified students from countries where English is not the first language.

How to apply:

  • Complete Viking Global Bridge application
  • Submit transcripts (originals and English translation)
  • Submit a score on TOEFL (PBT or iBT), IELTS, or Salem State University’s ESL placement exam

TWO SEMESTER PROGRAM

Applicants with scores of 490-497 PBT (paper-based TOEFL); 57 iBT

First semester

  • Calculus I or Statistics I (3 credits)
  • Academic Reading and Writing for the University
  • Academic Skills for the University

Second semester

  • Calculus or Principles of Marketing (3 credits)
  • Introduction to American Politics (3 credits)
  • Course in your major (3 credits)
  • Advanced Academic Reading and Writing for the University

THREE SEMESTER PROGRAM

Applicants with a score of 480-489 PBT (Paper-based TOEFL); 54 iBT

First semester coursework

  • Advanced Integrated Language Skills
  • Advanced Reading and Writing
  • US Higher Education

Second semester coursework 

  • Calculus I or Statistics I (3 credits)
  • Academic Reading and Writing for the University
  • Academic Skills for the University

Third semester coursework

  • Calculus or Principles of Marketing (3 credits)
  • Introduction to American Politics (3 credits)
  • Course in your major (3 credits)
  • Advanced Academic Reading and Writing for the University

CULTURAL IMMERSION EXPERIENCES

  • Through the “peer mentor” program, participants will be paired with current Salem State University students
  • In cooperation with the international student association, participants will plan and execute a cultural or academic event. Events might include panel discussions, lectures, meals, art, music, or dance presentations.
