Disability Services

The Disability Services assists in creating an environment for accessible education by coordinating services and accommodations for students with a variety of documented disabilities. It is our goal to provide support services that encourage students with disabilities to become self-sufficient in managing their own accommodations.

This Web site will acquaint you with the policies and procedures necessary to receive services at Salem State College, as well as your legal rights and responsibilities. You are encouraged to contact Disability Services if you have any questions about the information contained on this Web site. Salem State College complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Section 504 or the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

Welcome New and Prospective Students:

Salem State College is committed to providing appropriate services and accommodations that allow self-identified students with disabilities to access all programs and activities at the college as stated in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

Disability Services provides academic support to students with all types of disabilities, including, but not limited to:
o Learning Disabilities

o ADHD
o Mobility Impairments
o Medical Disabilities
o Autism Spectrum
o Blindness
o Visual Impairments
o Deafness
o Hard of Hearing
o Traumatic Brain Injuries
o Psychiatric Disabilities

In order for Disability Services to determine accommodation needs, the student must meet with a Disability Service’s Counselor and request specific services and accommodations. During this meeting, we will discuss documentation, academic accommodations, and student responsibilities. Final decisions regarding academic accommodations will be made with you and your Disability Service’s Advisor.

Students are responsible for submitting documentation that meets our guidelines. Students are also responsible for contacting Disability Services for an appointment and for discussing academic accommodations, such as extended test time, quiet setting, interpreters, note taking, etc., with the Disability Services staff.

To make an appointment to discuss any accommodations that you may require during orientation, student testing, living in the residence halls, or in the classroom please contact our office:
