Developmental Skills Program

The Developmental Skills Program provides alternative admissions opportunities for talented students that need further basic skills training. Students are selected for the Program by their high school grades and SAT scores. During the first four semesters students may be enrolled in pre-selected regular college courses. The courses are combined with study skills labs and academic support provided by Student Academic Support Services and the Reading Lab, as well as mentoring and tutorial assistance in all subjects. In addition, student development workshops, mentoring, and academic advising are also offered. A six-week summer program is required. During the summer program, students have the opportunity to take six, nine, or twelve college credits that may be applied toward their degree requirements. Once successfully completing the summer program, Developmental Skills students are provided with complete academic and student development support programs to enable them to reach their educational goals. Students may remain involved in the Program through graduation with tutorial services, workshops and activities as needed or requested.
