About Us
Institutional Research and Assessment organizes and analyzes institutional and other data to support planning, assessment and decision making at Salem State College. Although it reports to the provost and academic vice president, its responsibilities are collegewide. The office's major responsibility is compiling and filing reports required by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, the U.S. Department of Education and other state and federal agencies.
The office's objectives are:
- To meet, on time and with accurate information, the external reporting requirements of the state and federal government
- To organize, maintain and disseminate institutional data for decision making, program review and accreditation
- To analyze and interpret data as appropriate, providing the information necessary to plan, assess and make decisions
- To develop and disseminate information on best practices as a means to measure and improve student learning
- To provide information and support to units in their efforts to measure and improve student learning outcomes
