Amy Duquesnoy '09, Cartography and GIS
"I chose Salem State because it was one of the few colleges that offers Cartography as a major and not just as a concentration, and it is also close to my home state of Maine.
Being a part of the Geography department definitely made my time at Salem State great, it felt like home. The courses were interesting and challenging, the staff and professors were friendly and helpful, and the other students knew exactly what I was going through and understood my fascination with maps. The thing I enjoyed most was being able to go into any of the Geography professor's offices and discuss an assignment, complain about any course or just to chat about anything. While at Salem State, I had the opportunity to attend and present at two national geography conferences, as well as present at the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium on campus.
As a result of my education, experience and time in the Geography department, I was offered a job as a GIS Technician for a New England GIS consulting company.
Although I have graduated from Salem State, I enjoyed my time so much in the Geography department that I have gone back several times to visit former professors and friends that are still here."
