Dr. Sven Fuhrmann '93, Cartography major from Osnabrueck, Germany
"Receiving my bachelor of science degree in cartography at Salem State College laid the foundation for my academic career. At that time the geography department was teaching Geographic Information Science courses before many other U.S. colleges and universities. The undergraduate education I received was theory-based and included practical experiences. These skills allowed me to be successful as a graduate student.
All undergraduate students were able to work with a committed faculty. The open door policy of faculty members provided accessibility, allowed scientific discussions and stimulated the exchange of research ideas.
There are certainly many memories associated with Salem State. Overall my undergraduate experience allowed me to build long lasting friendships. I have to admit that I miss living on the North Shore."
