Salem State adds two new health care training programs
Salem State has recently partnered with Napa, California-based Boston Reed College to offer training programs for those desiring to become clinical medical assistants and pharmacy technicians. The college is collaborating with local career centers to offer the programs to qualified, unemployed career center clients with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding.
With the U.S. Labor Department estimating the need for pharmacy technicians and clinical medical assistants to grow 35 percent by 2014 and 2016, respectively, the demand for professionally trained personnel in both fields is only expected to grow.
Representatives from Boston Reed College and the North Shore Career Center presented information on both programs to over 50 attendees recently at Salem State, where potential students for either certification are able to complete the necessary course work in just one semester, followed by an externship.
