Engraving 2009 Print Portfolio
Engraving is one of the oldest western printmaking media. Its tools and materials have changed little since its beginnings in medieval times. In the 21st century, artists who practice engraving are rare but the unique appeal of the incised mark is as compelling as ever. Conceived by James Ehlers (Assistant Professor, Emporia State University, Emporia, KS) and Gerry Wubben (Professor, McNeese State University, Lake Charles, LA), this portfolio is the second of its kind and was organized to preserve and appreciate top-notch work created in this exquisite yet often-overlooked medium. Artists from Germany and Spain are included alongside the U.S. Treasury's own Will Fleishell, who engraved the head of Lincoln on the new five-dollar bill.
This exhibition runs October 6 through November 5. Artist Reception, Wednesday October 14 from 2-4 pm.
