Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI) June 22-26
Register for the APSI if you are a high school teacher interested in developing and teaching AP courses. You will discuss AP subject area content; prepare course syllabi and lesson plans; and learn about program implementation, such as student selection, budgeting, and preparing students for the AP examination.
These institutes will benefit experienced AP teachers and new AP instructors.
The APSI is ideal for
- Current AP teachers wishing to learn more about the AP Audit
- Current AP teachers wishing to share and receive techniques for enhancing student performance on AP exams
- Teachers who want to learn to teach AP courses in one of the content areas listed below
- Teachers of gifted and talented students
- Teachers who want to establish AP programs in their schools or districts

AP ENGLISH LITERATURE AND COMPOSITION (with consultant Maura Bullock)
AP U.S. HISTORY (with consultant Daniel Vara)
AP GOVERNMENT POLITICS U.S. (with consultant Paul Weizer)
AP SPANISH LANGUAGE (with consultant John McMullan)
AP WORLD HISTORY (with consultant Michele Forman)
Class sizes range from 10 to 22 participants.
The World History Association Conference
Salem State College will also be hosting the 18th Annual World History Association Conference June 25-28, 2009.
Registration

Registration fees cover all instruction, institute notes, program materials, and refreshment breaks including breakfast and lunch.
Credit and Fees
Professional Development Points (PDPs)
Participants will receive 37.5 PDPs upon completion of the institute. All sessions must be attended and all assignments must be completed. The non-graduate credit registration fee is $850.
Graduate Credit
Participants may earn three graduate credits for an additional credit registration fee of $225 per institute. Those registered for graduate credit must complete additional requirements identified by the institute instructor, attend all course sessions and complete an additional final project at the end of the class. All final projects and papers must be submitted to the instructor by July 17, 2009, three weeks after the conclusion of the Institute. The graduate credit registration fee is $1,075.
Faculty
All consultants are AP teachers endorsed by The College Board. They include AP exam readers, AP award winners, and lead consultants for regional AP institutes.
Housing
On-campus housing in our state-of-the-art residence hall may be reserved by calling 978.542.6416. Please identify yourself as part of the Advanced Placement Summer Institute, as we will have a block of rooms reserved for this group. Room charge is about $50 per night. Rooms are private apartment-style with four rooms in a unit sharing one kitchen and two bathrooms. For additional information visit the Residence Life Webpage.
