Student Health Insurance
Massachusetts State Law;mandates that all students who are registered for at least 75 percent of a full-time course load at an institution of higher learning in Massachusetts must participate in a student health insurance program or in a health insurance plan with comparable coverage. Massachusetts colleges are required to sponsor a health plan for students who do not have health insurance. The Salem State College Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan is provided by University Health Plans. The premium for the academic 2009-2010 year is $1017, and the policy is in effect from August 1, 2009 until July 31, 2010.
To comply with state law, students with nine (9) or more credit hours must either waive out of or enroll in the Salem State College Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan online beginning July 1, 2009 by doing the following:
- Waive out of the Salem State College Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan by going online to the University Health Plans website. The website will give you instructions on how to waive the Plan. You will be asked to provide information on your insurance coverage. To be eligible to waive out of the Plan, you must be currently enrolled in a health insurance plan with comparable coverage either as a dependent (on parent’s or spouse’s plan), or through a plan you have at your place of employment or have purchased yourself. The deadline for waiving out of the Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan is September 30, 2009.
OR
- Enroll online in the Salem State College Student Accident & Sickness Insurance Plan by going to the University Health Plans website. The website will give you information about the Plan and instructions on how to enroll. You will be charged for the insurance on the bill you receive from the College ($1017 for the 2009 - 2010 academic year).
IMPORTANT: All students registered for nine or more credit hours must go online and either waive out of or enroll in the insurance by September 30, 2009. If you do not make a selection by that date, you will be enrolled in the Plan and will be responsible for the charge.
