Meal Plan Info for Students

What is a meal plan?

A meal plan is a plan given to both resident and commuter students so they are able to eat and interact on campus.  The meal plan has a Flex Dollar fund which students can use for activities around campus without having to carry cash.  Our goal is to integrate both commuting and resident students so both groups are able to experience a full college life. Students can enjoy a meal while working on a project or just grab a snack between classes.

Types of meal plans

There are four meal plans:

  • The 14 Meal Plan is mandatory for all students living in Peabody or Bowditch Hall.  The plan includes 14 meals per week (1 breakfast and 1 dinner per day for 7 days), $200 Dining Dollars, and $75 Flex Dollars.
  • The 10 Meal Plan which is great for students living in Central or Bates who do not want to cook for themselves. The plan includes 10 meals per week, $200 Dining Dollars, and $75 Flex Dollars.
  • The Resident Meal Plan which is mandatory for all residents living on Central Campus or the Bates Complex (unless they choose the 10 meal plan).  The plan includes $200 Dining Dollars and $75 Flex Dollars.
  • The Commuter Meal plan which is mandatory for all first year students and is automatically given to all full time day students.  The plan includes $200 Dining Dollars and $75 Flex Dollars.

All meal plans are per semester which means the funds are added every semester. (example: if you have the commuter meal plan you will receive $200 Dining and $75 Flex dollars twice a year.  Once at the start of the Fall and once at the start of the Spring semester).

What if I do not want the plan and was given it anyway?

Simple!

All Residents are required to have a meal plan, it is mandatory.  If you have a dietary restriction and are unable to eat on campus please come to the ClipperCard office and we will work together with Chartwells Food Services to find the best solution to fit your needs.

Commuters who are full time day students are automatically given the Commuter Meal Plan.  This plan is mandatory for all first year students (Freshman and first year Transfers).  If you are an upperclassman the plan is voluntary and you may request be to be removed from it.  To do so, you need to drop the plan during the designated times at the start of each semester by contacting the Bursar's Office.  After the deadline has past you will be required to keep the plan.  The deadline for the fall 2009 semester was Friday, October 2, 2009.  The deadline for the upcoming spring 2010 semester is February 12, 2010.
