AFSCME Dental Benefits
AFSCME bargaining unit members who would like more information about what is covered under their dental plan should call The Mass Public Employees Fund Dental Unit at 1.800.553.6277 (fund office) or 800.553.6277 (questions concerning benefits, claims, providers, to get a new card). Their website is mpefund.org. Dental insurance is through Delta Dental. Vision insurance is available through Davis Vision (800.406.1656). For additional information and to check on your claim status go their website at davisvision.com. Dental and vision coverage becomes effective at the beginning of your seventh month of employment. There is no premium cost to the employee for this insurance as it is part of their Union Trust Agreement. New hires will receive enrollment information approximately 6-8 weeks before their effective date of coverage. This will come directly from the Massachusetts Public Employees Fund (MPEF).
You will be given three dental plan options:
1) to be in the "open plan" group number 7008-7401. If you choose this plan you can go to any dentist and any eye care provider
2) to be in the "closed" plan your group number is 7007-7777 and you must use the dentists and eye care providers in the booklet they will mail you
3) to be a participant in the Dental Wellness Oral Health Center (which is located in Westborough, MA).
If you do not complete the enrollment application and choose which plan you want, you will be defaulted into the "closed" plan. Open enrollment is held once a year during which time you can change your dental plan. Please call the above number for open enrollment information.
Add or Delete Dependents:
To add or delete dependents to your dental plan - contact the Mass. Public Dental Fund office at 800.325.5214.
Full-time student dependents can stay on your dental and vision insurance until age 23. COBRA coverage is available after your dependent no longer a full-time student or is over age 23. Contact the Mass. Public Employee’s Fund office at 1.800.325.5214.
Termination of Employment
If you employment ends and you are interested in continued coverage through COBRA, please call the Mass. Public Fund office at 1.800.325.5214.
Workers Compensation:
Employees who are on out of work and being paid through Workers Compensation only should contact Mass. Public Employees Fund to tell them they are on Workers Compensation so that monthly payment coupon books can be setup so the employee can pay COBRA continuation rates during their workers compensation leave.
