Non-Unit Dental Coverage
Employees who are not represented by a union are called "Non-Unit" employees.
Non-Unit staff or administrators have the option of having a dental plan or not as they must pay the full cost of dental coverage. Open enrollment is held once a year and non-unit members will receive notification of this opportunity to signup for non-unit dental insurance if they didn’t elect it when they were first hired. Employees who change union affiliation may join the plan outside of the annual enrollment period. The cost of non-unit dental insurance is currently $17.50 per month for individual coverage and $35.00 per month for family coverage. The annual maximum will be $1,500 per individual. Dental coverage is available through MetLife Dental, Non-Unit Group #105385. If you elected coverage as a new hire your coverage begins after two months of employment (on the first day of the following month). Employees can go to any dentist whether the dentist is part of the MetLife dental network or not. Using a MetLife Preferred dentist will save you money, however. To locate a MetLife Preferred Dentist in your area you can call 800.474.7371. The Benefits Coordinator will provide you with a packet of materials about the dental plan. Employees can also contact MetLife at 1.800.942.0854 or visit their website at metlife.com/mybenefits. Remember to insert BHE when asked for the company name. You will need to register at the MetLife website in order to view your dental benefits. McKenzie & Company is the Dental Administrator. You can reach Linda McKenzie at 800.295.9516 or 617.723.7232. It is easier to go through the Dental Administrator, Linda McKenzie, first and have her connect you with MetLife directly.

Termination of Employment (voluntary or retirement):

Dental insurance through COBRA is also available to dependents after they are no longer eligible through their parent(s). If you wish COBRA continuation, please contact Linda McKenzie at 800.295.9516 or 617.723.7232.
Non-Unit Dental Claim Form (pdf) should be mailed to: MetLife Dental Claims, PO Box 981282, El Paso, TX 79998-1282.
Non-Unit Dependent Coverage:
Dependents are covered under the employee’s dental plan up to their 19th birthday. If your dependent is a full-time student and a student verification form is completed and approved by McKenzie & Company, your dependent student can be covered under your dental plan until their 25th birthday. COBRA coverage is available for dependents who turn 19 or who cease being full-time students or reach age 25. Employees will need to complete a new student verification form each year in order to continue student dependent coverage. Orthodontia for dependent children under 19 years of age will be covered at 50 percent up to a maximum of $1,500 per child.
Non-Unit Status Changes/Student Coverage:
When your status changes (i.e. individual coverage to family, when you need to add a dependent to your coverage, or change your address or phone number), please remember to visit human resources and complete the necessary paperwork.
