Buyback of Military Service

For employees who had prior military service before they started working at Salem State University, read the article "Veteran's Creditable Service - New Rules for Buying Back Military Time" to determine if you may be eligible to buy back up to four years of military service to add to your creditable years or state service. If you are in the Optional Retirement Plan (eligible employees include faculty, president, vice presidents and deans) you are not eligible to buyback military time under the Optional Retirement Plan.

Be sure that when you retire you provide the State Retirement Board with a copy of your Veteran's Discharge papers (DD 214) paperwork when you send in your application to retire.
