Veterans' Affairs Staff and Students
Sam Ohannesian, director of enrollment services and veterans' affairs, serves as the university's primary contact for all issues related to the recruitment, admission and enrollment of veterans. As an enrollment services associate, Sam also assists students across the institution when they have issues that require the coordination of multiple offices on campus. Sam also assists the office's vice president with special projects. Sam holds a BS in business administration and an MEd in higher education-student affairs from Salem State.
Ted Serozynsky, veterans affairs coordinator served six years in the United States Navy as an electrician's mate onboard a fast attack submarine, completing two overseas deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Ted holds a BS and MA in criminal justice from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
Arlene Jaquez served four years of active duty in the United State Marine Corps. As an IMRL (Individual Material Readiness List) Asset Manager, she was attached to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 31 (MALS-31) in Beaufort, South Carolina before receiving orders to Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 122 (VMFA-122). With VMFA-122 she deployed to Afghanistan from October 2010 to May 2011. Arlene has participated in many exercises including Mojave Viper, Red Flag, and Weapons and Training Instructor Course (WTI). Currently Arlene is a double major in psychology and criminal justice.
Michael Michaud served four years active duty in the United States Marine Corps as an Aircraft Maintenance Admin Clerk. Michael was first stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan under the command of Marine Air Control Squadron 4 Detachment Alpha (MACS-4 ATC DET A). After two years in Okinawa, Michael received orders to Edwards Air Base in California under the command of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron-764 (HMM-764). Michael is a transfer student from North Shore Community College of Danvers, Massachusetts. Michael is joining the student body as a junior and is in pursuit of his undergraduate degree in Business Administration.
Colleen Nollet joined the Navy after graduating locally from Lynn English. A 12 year veteran, her tours included: five years on the USS George Washington (CVN-73) as a Fire Controlman, an Individual Augmentee assignment with the Army in Balad, Iraq working on the C-Ram mounts, and time at the Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, RI prior to being medically retired in November of 2012. Although she notes she has a daughter who keeps her busy at home, Colleen is now entering her second year at Salem State in pursuit of a BS in computer science with minors in business administration and math.
Thomas Ortiz served four years of active duty in the United States Air Force. As an Operations Intelligence Analyst he was stationed in Tinker Air Force base (Oklahoma) for three years. Before joining the military Thomas developed a passion for higher education student affairs during his undergraduate years at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. After his service, he decided to pursue a masters in higher education student affairs at Salem State University. From his military experience, Thomas also has a passion for health and fitness and always enjoys a good physical challenge.
Gerdine Pierre-Louis is an eight year veteran of the U.S. Army where she worked as a Human Resources Specialist. A recent transfer student to Salem State University, her love for caring for people has led her to pursue a degree in bachelor of science in nursing. She also has a passion for helping others and looks forward to meeting and assisting many of you in the future.
