All incoming first year students are expected to participate in "Opening Day" on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 to celebrate the beginning of the academic year and to prepare for the first day of classes on Wednesday, September 7. Additional information will be emailed to students two weeks before the event, however the tentative schedule for the day is as follows.

Join your faculty at the official
Speakers include Dr. Moustafa Bayoumi, author of this year's FYRE book along with President Meservey and other representatives from the institution . First year students will all receive their free Salem State University t-shirt at the event. Students should bring their book with them.
Please note that this event is not open to the public. However, you may watch the live stream beginning at 10:30 am on September 6.

|12:45 pm||FYRE Discussion Groups||All first year students will meet with their faculty and staff representatives in individual sessions to discuss this year's FYRE book. Room assignments will be distributed via email based on your student ID number and posted on the FYRE website. Students should have their book with them.|
||Ice Cream Social and Book Signing
||Join the Provost (Academic Vice President) for an ice cream social to celebrate the day. First year students will receive their free Salem State planner at this event. Dr. Bayoumi will also be available to sign the FYRE book.|
