Register to Vote by October 17
In order to express your voice in the November 6 general elections, you must register to vote by October 17.
To register to vote in Massachusetts you must:
· be a U.S. citizen; and
· be a Massachusetts resident; and
· be at least 18 years old on or before November 6 to vote in the general election.
Where to register:
Before registering, consider where you wish to vote on election day. You may only be registered in one community at a time. If you register to vote in Salem, you will only be eligible to vote there. So, if you are a student and wish to vote in Salem because that’s where you’ll be on November 6, then you must register to vote in Salem either online, in person, or by mail. In the future, if you no longer wish to vote in Salem, you must register to vote in another city or town of your choice before you will you will be able to vote there, which will then make you ineligible to vote in Salem.
You may register to vote online! Visit studentvote.org and follow the instructions on this site.
You must be registered to vote to request an absentee ballot. You may request an absentee ballot from any Massachusetts city or town by filling out an application for an absentee ballot and sending it to the community where you are registered to vote. That community will send you a ballot to complete, which you will return to your local municipality.
