The First Year Experience Opening TeamAlways O-utstanding. Definitely O-utrageous. Truly O-riginal.
The O-Team is a group of upper-class students who volunteer to help welcome the incoming class of first year students each year in August/September. You can be a member of the O-Team as long as you bring a high level of enthusiasm and dedication to welcoming students to the university.
O-Team assists in coordinating and implementing the First Year Day of Service and Opening Day which includes Convocation, FYRE, and several other events. As a member of the O-Team, you will also have a chance to stay connected throughout the year at other programs and activities sponsored by FYE. O-Team members are positive role-models for first year students and possess knowledge of campus resources, student organizations, processes, and university events/activities. The primary mission of O-Team is to ensure that first year students have an awesome start to their first year at Salem State University.

The emerging scholars program is an initiative at Salem State University designed to bring together, support and motivate rising potential first year students. Participants are selected to participate after a review of admissions materials and have opportunities to sign up for one on one meetings with full-time academic success coaches, participate in group meetings, attend programs and events related to achieving success in the classroom, and make new friends in a fun environment.
In addition to their success coach, students also have an opportunity to work with and learn from each other through their experiences in various workshops covering such topics as: time management, networking, community service, campus lifestyle and many more! First Year Advisory BoardThe first year advisory board (FAB) is an easy way for first year students to get involved at Salem State University in a fun and simple way during their first year. Founded in 2012, the First-Year Advisory Board actively looks for feedback from first year students in how to improve their experience at the university. Anyone can become a member of FAB, and since first year students are busy being involved with a lot during their first year there aren't an overwhelming number of meetings or events when serving on the board. Congrats to the members of our coordinating board. To find out more information, or to sign up to be a part of FAB, like "FAB First-Year Advisory Board" on Facebook. FAB representatives will be at orientation to answer any questions you may have.
