QWERTY: An Opera With A [TEXT] Message
Music faculty Rob Bradshaw premieres his new comic chamber opera. "QWERTY" is the story of a question and whether or not it will ever be asked. Joe and Ella have to find the strength to put down their phones and speak directly to each other. Can they do it? Can they ignore the ceaseless pull of their hand-held devices? Or in this world of constant connectivity, will they never connect?
A humorous and thoughtful musical look at technology in our daily lives.
Faculty members Gary Wood, Lynn Shane and Beverly Soll are joined by Boston area freelance musicians Monica Duncan (clarinet), Nathan Cohen (violin) and Kristjan Asgeirsson (marimba).
The evening will begin with a pre-concert lecture by the composer discussing how technology inspired the creation of the composition and then a complete (30 minute) performance of the opera.
Free.
