Author Harriet Washington to speak on medical apartheid at 2012 Darwin Festival

“Medical Apartheid”

Harriet Washington is the author of Medical Apartheid: the Dark History of Experimentation on Black Americans from Colonial Times to the Present, which was awarded the National Book Circle Critics Award for Non-Fiction.

Ms. Washington describes her work as writing "at the intersection of medicine, ethics and culture."  She has earned prestigious fellowships at Stanford University, Harvard University School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School. Published this fall, her most recent book, "Deadly Monopolies," addresses the public health implications of the struggles between scientists and corporations for patents to new drugs and medical technology. 

Ms. Washington will be available to sign both books, which will be available for sale, following her presentation.
