SENIOR AT BERTOLON SCHOOL RECEIVES TWO NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Stephanie Baez, daughter of Juan H. Baez of Lawrence and a senior accounting major at Salem State College, is the recipient recently of two national accounting scholarships.
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), which annually provides scholarships to minority students demonstrating exceptional academic achievement, leadership and commitment to pursuing the CPA designation, awarded Baez one of its Minority Accounting Students Scholarships for the 2008 academic year. Less than 140 of the scholarships are given nationally.
Baez received a second nationally competitive scholarship from the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA). In addition to the two national scholarships in April, Baez was the recipient of an OSRAM Sylvania scholarship. Upon graduation in December, Baez, whose sister is a freshman at Salem State, hopes to land an accounting position in a medium-sized Boston firm that will allow her to continue her interest in the area of taxation. She hopes to attend Becker College in late spring/early summer to obtain her CPA designation.
