Student Commencement Speakers Application Information

All graduating students may apply to be selected as the student speaker at commencement. Three students will be selected by panels of faculty, administrators and students; one for each of the three commencement exercises (the School of Graduate Studies ceremony; the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education ceremony; and the College of Health and Human Services and Bertolon School of Business ceremony).

Submissions for the afternoon College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Education ceremony are closed.

The committee is still accepting submissions for the morning College of Health and Human Services and Bertolon School of Business ceremony. Interested morning ceremony student speakers should complete the student commencement speaker application form and submit it to the appropriate office by Thursday, March 28.

Graduate applications should be returned electronically to Kathleen Neville at kneville@salemstate.edu; undergraduate applications should be returned to the campus center office in room 218 of the Ellison Campus Center.

Students selected by the respective selection panels as finalists will be asked to deliver their proposed commencement speech to the appropriate panel. Each of the three selection panels will then choose one student speaker for each ceremony by approximately Friday, April 12.

Questions may be directed to Kathleen Neville, School of Graduate Studies for graduate students, and to Bruce Perry, director of the Campus Center for undergraduate students.
