Lewis Bean
Jr.
probate, 1721
Born on April 28, 1671, Lewis Jr.
was
probably the oldest son of the family. He survived the 1692 Candlemas
Raid,
that saw other family members either killed or taken captive. It was
probably
soon after the raid that Lewis built the family home that was the focus
of
archaeological excavations in 1997 and 1998. A captain of the militia,
justice
of the peace, and coroner for York County, Lewis rose to become one of
the
leading citizens of York, before his death at age 50 in 1721.
